The Niagara Falls Aquarium is an aquatic-themed recreational center which is one of the most popular tourist attractions. The Aquarium is located at 701 Whirlpool Road (just north of the Rainbow Bridge) in the City of Niagara Falls, New York. It was opened in 1965 by a group of scientists who wanted to experiment with artificial seawater.
This unique aquarium holds a great importance as being situated in the middle of a tourist area it benefits people educationally and also has been a spot of entertainment for visitors. Since its establishment, the aquarium and its developers have created a foundation called the Aquarium of Niagara which lends itself to education and wild life research and preservation.
Popularly known as "First Inland Oceanarium", the Niagara Falls Aquarium is an essential stop during your trip to the falls. This aquarium holds more than 2.000 aquatic species, which represents ecosystems ranging from the Great Lakes to coral reefs. Some of the aquatic lives have been rescued and each of their stories is posted outside their virtual habitats.
The aquarium hosts shows and demonstrations periodically throughout the day, normally every hour and a half, where you can see feedings, and sea lions performing. Some the most crowded shows here are the
- Peruvian Penguin Feedings (10:00am and 3:00pm)
- Sea Lion Shows (11:00, 1:00, 3:30, and 6:00)
- Seal Presentations (10:30am and 4:30pm)
- Shark Feedings (11:30am)
- Tidal Pool Feedings (11:30am)
